Window tinting in Biel/Bienne: tint films for cars

Carrosserie K.I. in Biel/Bienne tints car windows with tint films that are applied from the inside to the rear side windows and the rear window. The film reduces heat and UV radiation and protects against prying eyes. Strict rules apply in Switzerland to the front side windows and the windscreen. Before fitting, we advise you on what is permitted on your vehicle.

How tint film is fitted professionally

Tint films are applied to the glass from the inside. First we clean the window thoroughly, including the edges and seals, because every speck of dust would later remain visible as a trapped particle. The film is cut to size on the outside of the window and, on curved windows, shaped with heat until it lies flat without creases. It is then laid on the inside with an application fluid, aligned and pressed on with the squeegee so that water and air are pushed out completely.

Quality can be seen in the details: clean edges right up to the edge of the glass, no bubbles, no trapped dust and, on the rear window, a film in one piece over the heating elements. The film itself matters too. High-quality films keep their colour and noticeably reduce heat and UV radiation without greatly restricting the view out. After fitting, the film needs time to dry through. During this phase the windows stay closed, and slight streaks generally disappear by themselves.

What is permitted, when it is worthwhile and what determines the price

Tinted windows are worthwhile for anyone who often travels with children, dogs or equipment: the interior heats up less, upholstery and plastics fade more slowly and luggage is protected from view. Legally, caution is called for. As a rule the rear side windows and the rear window may be tinted, while strict rules apply to the front side windows and the windscreen. We only tint what is permitted under the Swiss regulations, and advise you on your vehicle beforehand.

There are technical limits too. Damaged heating elements, scratches in the glass or remnants of old film have to be assessed beforehand, and a very dark tint restricts the view to the rear at night. The price depends on the number and curvature of the windows, the type of vehicle and the film chosen. If an old film has to be removed, this work is added. Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to tint car windows?

+

The price depends on the number and shape of the windows, the type of vehicle and the film chosen. A heavily curved rear window takes more work than a flat side window, and an estate car has more glass area than a three-door car. Tell us your vehicle via the online damage report: you will receive an indicative quote including VAT within 24 hours on working days.

Which car windows may be tinted in Switzerland?

+

As a rule, the windows behind the driver’s seat, that is the rear side windows and the rear window, may be tinted with film. Strict light transmission requirements apply to the front side windows and the windscreen, and retrofitted tinting is only possible there within narrow limits. The regulations in force are decisive and, in case of doubt, the road traffic office. We advise you on what is permitted.

How long does tint film last on a car?

+

That depends on the quality of the film, on careful workmanship and on care. High-quality, dyed-through films generally keep their colour for many years, while basic films can fade or form bubbles over time. After fitting, the windows should stay closed for some time until the film has dried through. Cleaning is done without abrasive products.
