How a car wrap is carried out, step by step
A wrap stands or falls with the preparation. The vehicle is washed, freed of tar and iron fallout and degreased, especially in seams, on edges and in door handle recesses. Where it improves the result, we remove attached parts such as door handles, badges, lights or mirror caps, so that the film can be wrapped around the edges and no cuts are needed on the paint. The film is then applied panel by panel, shaped with heat and pressed on without bubbles using the squeegee.
Quality shows on edges, swage lines and heavily curved parts such as bumpers and mirrors. There the film is stretched and has to be post-heated in a targeted way after application so that it does not shrink back. Clean joins, concealed seams and wrapped edges distinguish careful work from quick work. With paint protection films, a precisely fitting cut is also essential so that the transparent film remains practically invisible. Finally we refit all the parts and inspect the vehicle under light.
When wrapping is worthwhile, where the limits lie and what it costs
Wrapping is worthwhile if you want to change the colour without giving up the original paint, if individual parts such as the roof, mirrors or trim strips are to be given an accent, or if a company vehicle is to have a uniform appearance. A paint protection film protects heavily exposed zones such as the front end, bonnet and loading sill from stone chips and scratches. The film can be removed again later. Important to know: a noticeable colour change generally has to be reported to the road traffic office, and we point this out to you during the consultation.
The limit is set by the surface underneath. Film only adheres to intact, fully cured paint. Rust, chips, dents and poorly adhering resprays show through the film or come away when it is later removed. We repair such areas beforehand, as a body shop with our own paint shop under the same roof. The price depends on the size of the vehicle, the scope, the type of film and the shape of the parts. Send us your vehicle details and wishes via the online damage report, and you will receive an indicative quote including VAT within 24 hours on working days.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a car wrap cost in Biel/Bienne?
+
The deciding factors are the size of the vehicle, the scope (whole car or individual parts), the type of film and the shape of the bodywork. Heavily curved bumpers and many edges mean more work. A paint protection film is constructed differently from a colour film. Send us your vehicle details and wishes via the online damage report: you will receive an indicative quote including VAT within 24 hours on working days.
Wrapping or painting: which is better?
+
That depends on the aim. A wrap is removable, protects the original paint and is suitable for a temporary colour change or for company vehicles. Painting is the right choice when the paint is damaged, weathered or rusty, because film only adheres to an intact surface and does not hide damage. As a body shop with our own paint shop, we advise you on both options.
Do I have to report a colour change made by wrapping?
+
If the wrap changes the colour of the vehicle noticeably, in Switzerland this generally has to be reported to the road traffic office so that the vehicle registration document can be amended. The exact procedure depends on your canton. You should also inform your insurer about the wrap. During the consultation we tell you what you should bear in mind.
