Car detailing and polishing in Biel/Bienne

When detailing a vehicle, Carrosserie K.I. in Biel/Bienne cleans and polishes the paint, removes fine scratches in the clear coat and protects the surface with a sealant. Interior cleaning can be added on request. This makes sense for dull or scratched paint, before selling the car or before handing back a leased vehicle. Deep scratches down to the primer need to be painted.

How paint correction with polishing works

A good polish begins with cleaning. After the wash, iron fallout, tar, tree sap and insect residue are removed, because every particle of dirt would leave new scratches during polishing. We then assess the paint under strong light: how deep are the scratches, how dull is the surface, has it already been resprayed? Plastic parts, rubber seals and edges are masked. Only then is the polishing machine used, with a polish and polishing pad to suit the hardness of the paint.

Polishing is done in stages. A coarser polish removes a wafer-thin layer of clear coat and takes wash scratches and dull areas with it, and a fine polish then brings out the depth of gloss and removes holograms. Quality depends on removing only as much material as necessary, because the clear coat is not infinitely thick. Finally, a sealant protects the freshly polished surface from the weather and makes washing easier. On request we clean the upholstery, carpets, dashboard and windows inside the car.

When polishing is worthwhile and when painting is needed

Polishing is worthwhile when the paint looks flat, shows fine scratches from the car wash or needs to shine evenly again after a repair. Typical occasions are a sale, the end of a lease or a used car you have just taken over. Individual scratches too, for instance from a bush or a bag against the door, often disappear completely as long as they are in the clear coat. On dark colours the difference after polishing is particularly easy to see.

The limit is reached when the scratch goes through the clear coat, the paint is flaking or the clear coat has weathered over a whole area. Then only a partial respray or a spot repair will help, and as a body shop with our own paint shop we offer both from a single source. The price of detailing depends on the size of the vehicle, the condition of the paint, the number of polishing stages and the scope of the interior cleaning. With photos sent via the online damage report, you will receive an indicative quote including VAT within 24 hours on working days.

Frequently asked questions

How much does car detailing cost in Biel/Bienne?

+

That depends on the size of the vehicle, the condition of the paint, the number of polishing stages and whether the interior is included. A well-kept small car takes less work than a badly scratched estate car. Send us photos via the online damage report and describe what you would like: you will receive an indicative quote including VAT within 24 hours on working days.

Can scratches in the paint be polished out?

+

Yes, as long as the scratch is only in the clear coat. Rule of thumb: if your fingernail does not catch when you run it over the scratch, it can usually be polished out. If the colour coat or the primer is visible, polishing no longer helps. In that case a partial respray or a spot repair is the clean solution. We assess this from a photo or directly on the vehicle.

Is detailing worthwhile before selling a car?

+

Often, yes. Glossy paint and a clean interior shape the first impression in photos and at the viewing. Small scratches and dull areas make a car look older than it is. Whether the effort pays off in a particular case depends on the vehicle and its condition. We tell you honestly which work makes sense and which does not.
