Damaged wheel rim: keep driving, refurbish or replace?
After hitting a kerb or a pothole, the first question is whether the rim is still safe. Superficial scratches on the rim flange are cosmetic damage and can generally be refurbished. With cracks, buckling or a broken-out rim flange, replacement is called for. Is kerb damage to a rim dangerous?

A scratch alone is usually a cosmetic problem. In a hard impact, however, the tyre sidewall, the rim or the wheel suspension can be damaged without it being visible straight away. Vibrations, an off-centre steering wheel or a bulge in the tyre are warning signs. In that case have the wheel checked quickly.
